It is usually found in Central and South America. After mating, the female sometimes eats the male as she mates only once in her life, earning the name “widow. The black widow spider (Latrodectus spp.) is a spider notorious for its neurotoxic venom. The black widow is not aggressive. It will, however, bite instinctively when touched or pressed. She hangs belly upward and rarely leaves the web.

Inland Taipan is the most toxic land snake in the world, with a lethal dose estimated to be fifty times that of the Indian cobra. A single bite from this fierce Australian Snake contains enough venom to kill as many as 100 human adults, or 250,000 mice. Taipan venom is overwhelmingly neurotoxic and thus severely affecting the nervous system. Symptoms include vomiting, flaccid paralysis, and eventual respiratory paralysis. Maximum yield recorded (for one bite) is 110mg.

  1. Now I know what to stay away from! I live in Phoenix and have seen a good amount of black widow spiders and scorpions. Thankfully I have never been bit and hope to keep it that way. I read that one of our hospitals has an experimental antivenin, but I really don't ever want to need to use it.
